Frequently asked questions

Why does the app ask for my location?

Your location is used to find your city, to look for places near you and to show how far away they are. It is only used while you are using the app and is never sent to me. You can still use Discover My City without it: just search for your city instead.

How do I change my city, search radius or categories?

Open the Settings tab. Under Area you can pick a different city, change the radius and choose which categories you are interested in. Changing the area may remove places outside the new area that you have not saved.

Where did a place I skipped go?

Places you pass on are kept in Settings → Archive → Discarded, where you can bring them back.

What does “Gone” mean?

When a refresh no longer finds a place, for example because it has closed, it is moved to Settings → Archive → Gone instead of disappearing silently.

No new places are showing up.

Pull down on the list to refresh. If there is still nothing new, try widening your radius or adding categories in Settings. In smaller towns it can take a while until something new opens.

How do I add a widget?

Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, tap Edit → Add Widget and search for Discover My City. Choose between New in Town, New Places and Near Me.

Is my data backed up or synced between devices?

Your places are stored only on your iPhone. They are included in your regular iPhone backup but are not synced to other devices.
